SP Chief Accuses BJP & Election Commission ..
He claimed the government is attempting to snatch citizens’ right to vote under the pretext of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list.
Yadav labeled SIR as a “deliberate conspiracy” and a strategy to undermine constitutional rights guaranteed by B.R. Ambedkar.
Death of BLO Vijay Kumar Verma
Vijay Kumar Verma, a Booth Level Officer (BLO), died of a brain haemorrhage on november 14 while on duty during SIR.
SP alleged that government officials are pressuring Verma’s family to claim he was not on duty and was already ill.
Verma’s family stated he was working as a Shiksha Mitra, was at work until 11 pm, and suffered a brain stroke at the office.
His wife accused officials of making false allegations and providing no administrative support.
Financial Assistance & Demands
Akhilesh Yadav handed over Rs 2 lakh to Verma’s family on behalf of SP.
He demanded government aid of Rs 1 crore, along with linkage to welfare schemes and government jobs for the family.
Yadav emphadata-sized the responsibility and sensitivity of BLO work and highlighted the risk of rejected forms preventing voting.
Criticism of the SIR Process
Yadav criticized the hasty implementation of SIR across Uttar Pradesh.
Questioned the urgency, noting festivals, weddings, and other responsibilities of citizens.
Pointed out procedural issues:
Forms have technicalities that are difficult to manage.
Sanitation workers appointed as assistants to BLOs.
Government claims of complete form distribution differ from reality.
