Congress Targets government Over indigo Crisis

Rahul Gandhi’s Criticism

Congress leader Rahul gandhi sharply criticized the central government regarding IndiGo’s operational disruptions.

In a social media post, he stated that “IndiGo’s failure is the price of this government’s monopoly model.”

Gandhi argued that ordinary indians are suffering from widespread flight delays, cancellations, and a growing sense of helplessness.

He stressed that india deserves fair competition in all sectors, not what he termed a “match-fixing monopoly.”

According to gandhi, the crisis reflects structural issues caused by poor policy choices promoting limited competition.

IndiGo’s Operational Breakdown

Scale of Disruptions

More than 550 flights were cancelled on Thursday, followed by over 400 cancellations on Friday, severely affecting travel plans nationwide.

IndiGo acknowledged the widespread inconvenience caused to hundreds of passengers.

IndiGo’s Explanation & Commitments

The airline informed the DGCA that operations are expected to be fully normal by february 10, 2026.

IndiGo requested a temporary relaxation in Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) rules, claiming difficulty in implementing the second phase of the revised rules.

The company admitted that the crisis resulted from improper planning and calculation errors during the transition to new FDTL norms.

It also informed regulators that additional flight cancellations would continue until december 8, and services would be scaled down from that date to stabilize operations.

Government Response

Aviation Minister’s Review

Aviation minister K. Rammohan Naidu convened a high-level review meeting to evaluate the situation.

He expressed dissatisfaction with IndiGo’s handling of the FDTL implementation, pointing out that the airline had sufficient time to prepare.

The Ministry emphadata-sized the need for better planning, regulatory compliance, and measures to prevent further large-scale disruptions.
