Assam has significantly expanded its flagship women’s welfare programme Orunodoi 3.0, making it one of the largest social support schemes in the state. Under this scheme, 38 lakh low-income women-led families receive ₹1,250 per month directly into their bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The aim is to help households manage essential expenses such as food, healthcare, and household needs, ensuring economic stability and dignity for women and their families.

💼 2. Seed Money for Entrepreneurs – MMUA Empowers women business Owners

The Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA) focuses on boosting women’s entrepreneurship. Under the scheme:

  • Women in Self-Help Groups (SHGs) receive ₹10,000 as initial seed money to start or grow micro-businesses.
  • The scheme plans to expand support in later phases through subsidized loans and higher financial assistance, helping women become financially self-reliant and create sustainable income.

To implement the MMUA scheme on the ground, the chief minister has been distributing cheques worth ₹10,000 to tens of thousands of women across districts like Nalbari, Darrang, and Sarupathar. This direct support helps many women start small businesses like tailoring, shops, farming activities, and other livelihood services — pushing forward rural economic empowerment.
