Jamia Masjid Chief Imam Speaks on Vande Mataram Controversy

Muslims Respect National Anthem:

Mufti Dr. Mohammad Maqsood Imran Rashadi, Chief Imam and Khatib of Jamia Masjid, stated that Muslims fully respect the national anthem and will continue to do so.

He emphadata-sized that respecting the national anthem does not conflict with Islamic beliefs.

Concerns Over Vande Mataram Notification:

Imam Rashadi said the central government’s recent notification regarding Vande Mataram has caused concern among citizens.

Certain lines of Vande Mataram, he noted, are inconsistent with Islamic faith, making compulsory recitation problematic.

He appealed that the issue should not be raised in a way that creates societal tension.

Constitutional Rights and Religious Freedom:

Rashadi highlighted that India’s Constitution guarantees citizens the freedom to live according to their religion.

He recalled supreme court rulings affirming religious freedom in multiple cases.

He warned that forcibly implementing Vande Mataram could infringe on citizens’ constitutional rights.

Appeal to the Central Government:

He mentioned that Musalman-e-Karnataka and Amarat-e-Shariah karnataka have formally requested the government to reconsider and withdraw the notification.

The Imam clarified that communities already participate in the national anthem, which has been recited traditionally by all, and that should continue without disruption.

Distance from Politics, Focus on Peace:

Imam Rashadi stressed that his statements are not politically motivated.

His primary goal is to maintain peace, harmony, and societal stability.

He expressed hope that the prime minister will understand these sentiments and avoid actions that could escalate tensions.

Emphasis on National Progress:

The Imam concluded that the priority for everyone should be the progress and peace of the country.

He appealed to citizens and authorities alike to approach the matter with sensitivity and respect for diverse religious beliefs.

Key Takeaway:

The statement aims to reassure that Muslims respect national symbols while advocating for thoughtful handling of Vande Mataram to maintain social harmony.

Rashadi’s remarks highlight the balance between patriotic duties and religious freedoms in India’s democratic framework.
