Major Update for LPG Users: Aadhaar e KYC Is Now Mandatory — Failure to Comply May Affect Deliveries and Subsidies

Balasahana Suresh
The Government of India has issued updated instructions regarding Aadhaar‑based e‑KYC (electronic Know Your Customer) for domestic LPG consumers. This step aims to ensure that only legitimate beneficiaries receive LPG refills and related subsidy benefits, and to reduce misuse of the system amid ongoing supply challenges.

What’s Being Made Mandatory?

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has reiterated that:

  • Aadhaar biometric authentication (e‑KYC) must be completed by LPG consumers who have not yet done so.
  • This biometric check confirms a consumer’s identity via data-face authentication or other biometric methods linked to Aadhaar.
  • The process can be done digitally from home using mobile apps provided by LPG companies and the Aadhaar FaceRD app — there’s no need to visit your gas agency physically.
What Happens If You Don’t Complete e‑KYC

Officials have warned that:

📌 You may data-face disruption in LPG delivery services

Consumers who have not completed the required Aadhaar authentication may see delays or blockages in booking and receiving LPG cylinders until the verification is done.

📌 Subsidy benefits may be stopped

For users receiving Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) subsidies — especially under schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY)failure to complete e‑KYC could affect ongoing subsidy credits.

Officials say the push for mandatory e‑KYC is partly due to concerns about misuse — such as households holding multiple LPG connections or diversion of cylinders to the black market — especially during the global supply pressures affecting LPG imports and distribution.

Clarification From Government

The Ministry of Petroleum has also clarified that this requirement is part of an ongoing effort to complete authentication for consumers who are still not verified — not a brand‑new rule for everyone. The mandate is targeted mainly at those whose e‑KYC status is still pending.

However, the practical result is clear: if you have not completed e‑KYC yet, you should do so soon to avoid issues with LPG refills and subsidies.

How to Complete LPG Aadhaar e‑KYC

You can complete the e‑KYC process through:

Your LPG provider’s official app (e.g., IndianOil One, hello BPCL, hp Pay).

The Aadhaar FaceRD app (for data-face biometric authentication).

Visiting your local LPG distributor if you prefer help on site.

This process links your LPG customer ID with your Aadhaar and registered mobile number for verification.

Why This Matters Now

Government authorities have emphadata-sized that accurate e‑KYC helps:

  • Prevent duplicate or ghost LPG connections
  • Ensure subsidies reach the right beneficiaries
  • Maintain fair distribution of limited LPG supplies during supply constraints linked to global energy market pressures.
