In a bid to modernize access to cooking gas and tackle ongoing supply challenges,
India’s first LPG ATM has been launched in
Gurugram (Haryana). This innovative vending machine allows residents to
swap empty LPG cylinders for filled ones in just 2 to 3 minutes, offering a quick, automated alternative to traditional home delivery.
📍 Where It’s Located and Who Launched ItThe LPG ATM has been installed in
Central Park Flower Valley, Sector‑33, Sohna in Gurugram. It’s part of a
pilot project by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL), aiming to modernize LPG distribution using tech‑driven solutions.
⏱️ How It Works: Quick & Automated RefillsUnlike the traditional process of booking and waiting for delivery, the LPG ATM provides
instant cylinder exchange with a fully automated, contactless system:
Enter your registered mobile number on the machine.
Verify via OTP (One‑Time Password) sent to your phone.
Scan barcode or QR code on your empty cylinder.
Complete payment digitally (UPI/debit card). The ATM
stores your empty cylinder and
dispenses a filled composite cylinder — all within about
2–3 minutes. This removes the need to stand in queues, coordinate with delivery personnel, or wait for scheduled home deliveries.
🛠️ What Makes LPG ATM Different?🔹 Composite CylindersThe LPG ATM dispenses
lightweight composite LPG cylinders (weighing around 15 kg with the same quantity of gas) compared to traditional iron cylinders that weigh about 31 kg. These composite cylinders are easier to handle and even
have transparent bodies so users can see the gas level without lifting the cylinder.
🔹 24×7 AvailabilityThe machine operates
round the clock, providing access at any time — especially useful for busy households and working families who might not be available during traditional delivery hours.
🔹 Smart Inventory AlertsThe LPG ATM can hold a
limited stock (around 10 cylinders). When inventory runs low, it automatically alerts the nearest gas agency to refill the machine, ensuring continued availability.
📌 Why It MattersThis initiative comes amid
LPG supply concerns and delivery delays that many indian households have been facing. The LPG ATM aims to provide a
faster, more convenient option for getting cooking gas without having to deal with long waits or scheduling issues.Experts believe that if this pilot proves successful,
similar LPG vending machines could be introduced in other areas across India, helping transform how residents access essential fuel.
