Anbumani Ramadoss Demands Better Support for Farmers

Anbumani Ramadoss has urged both the Central and State Governments to increase the procurement price of paddy to ₹3,500 per quintal in order to protect the interests of farmers and ensure fair compensation for their hard work.

The demand was made on behalf of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), which emphadata-sized that rising cultivation costs and unstable market conditions have placed severe financial pressure on farmers across tamil Nadu and other agricultural regions.

Rising Cultivation Costs Affect Farmers

According to Anbumani Ramadoss, farmers are struggling due to the continuous increase in expenses related to:

  • Seeds and fertilizers
  • Electricity and irrigation
  • Farm labour wages
  • Transportation and harvesting costs
He pointed out that the current procurement price fixed for paddy is not sufficient to cover these growing expenses. As a result, many farmers are facing heavy financial losses despite investing significant time and resources into cultivation.

Demand for Increased Incentive Amount

Anbumani stated that the governments should enhance the incentive bonus provided to farmers so that they effectively receive ₹3,500 per quintal for paddy procurement. He argued that such a measure would provide immediate relief to farmers and encourage continued agricultural production.

He further noted that agriculture remains the backbone of the rural economy and that farmers deserve a stable and profitable income for sustaining food production in the country.

Call for Joint Action by Central and State Governments

The PMK leader appealed to both the Union government and the tamil Nadu government to work together in implementing the revised procurement price. He stressed that coordinated action is necessary to ensure that farmers receive the benefits directly and without delay.

He also warned that inadequate pricing policies could discourage farmers from continuing paddy cultivation, which may eventually affect food security and agricultural sustainability.

Need to Protect the Farming Community

Anbumani Ramadoss emphadata-sized that supporting farmers is not merely an economic issue but also a social responsibility. He urged the governments to introduce farmer-friendly policies, strengthen procurement mechanisms, and ensure timely payments to cultivators.

He concluded by stating that increasing the procurement price to ₹3,500 per quintal would help improve the livelihood of farmers and provide much-needed financial stability to the agricultural sector.
