Conservancy staff cleans hot-spots to maintain hygiene

The authorities have catapulted a cleanliness program to clean the Mahamaham tank as the temple at Kumbakonam which had a steady flow of devotees. The authorities have organized the civic workers to maintain hygiene in and around Kumbakonam after the MaasiMaham function which was held recently.


Many devotees complained about the impurity of water in Mahamaham Tanj, Potramarai Tank and Chakra Padithurai weren’t clean and the temporary toilets were not maintained properly which will affect the people residing nearby and the city’s hygiene was totally in bad condition. The officials should have taken steps in advance to maintain cleanliness at the three areas.


The filth is presently cleaned and the water recycling work is intensified and the water draining work is done at 70 to 100 liters per second at the Mahamaham tank and the inflow of water is made from the Valayapatti pumping station at Coleroon has also increased considerably.


The water is chlorinated and bleaching power is put for every half an hour. The water level in the tank has increased to 5 cm in a day. The authorities have made steps to clean the tanks and the temporary toilets are cleaned by 50 conservancy staff and the sanitation work is also completed and the authorities have said very soon the textile waste of the devotees at the bathing ghat will be cleaned at the earliest.
