AP’s Excess Power Soon For Telangana

The state of Andhra Pradesh is reportedly finalizing the process for selling the excess power it has been generating to Telangana from June. Telangana is facing acute short of power and has been relying on power bought from outside. This summer has seen quite a number of power cuts and shortages.

Recently Telangana government had requested Andhra Pradesh over the possibility of buying the power from Krishnapatnam Power Station in Nellore. Andhra Pradesh seems to have replied that power cannot be sent in peak summer as technical problems are arising.

This is due to the fact most plants were not operating at the full capacity.  Andhra Pradesh is expected to send 300MW of Power generated to Telangana from June 2016. Telangana is expected to get that at  a tariff of 4.62 Rupees per unit, considered a reasonable cost.

However sources say that AP government is also worried over pending power bills from Telangana. Telangana’s dues are already running over 1000 Crores, and now PPA will be executed involving a proper time frame for the payments. It would be best if the deal happens smoothly between both states.
