Supreme Court to give shock to Criminal politicians?

Criminals and politics became inseparable for many decades. It has become a prestige issue for any politician to have at least one case on his name to boast of his status. However all that may change if Supreme Court will have its say.

An advocate and social activist approached Supreme Court seeking its directions to debar convicted politicians from electoral politics for life.

He said it is necessary to curb corruption and criminalisation which is becoming the greatest menace for the country's democracy and development.

Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay who filed the petition brought to the notice of supreme court that 40 politicians, involved in serious heinous crimes like loot, extortion, murder, rape etc were the Members of the 11th Lok Sabha and 700 politicians of similar background were in the State legislatures.

He said political parties are banking on winnability of the candidate by hook or crook and not on the character. In the petition he felt that apart from terrorism and naxalism, criminalisation of politics should be uprooted.

Supreme Court too expressed its concern and decided to take up the matter soon. If Supreme Court decides then criminal politicians will be having tough time.
