El Salvador data-faces a significant incarceration challenge, with approximately two percent of its adult population behind bars for various crimes. The imprisonment rate in the country is notably high. In response to the escalating issues, President Bukele announced the inauguration of a new 40,000 capacity terrorism prison centre, designed to house the most violent and dangerous criminals in an effort to address the ongoing crisis.
