Highest Honour for BJP's Visionary.!
BJP stalwart and former Deputy prime minister Lal krishna Advani has been conferred with the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in India, as announced by prime minister Narendra Modi himself. Born in 1927 in Karachi, undivided India, Advani later moved to bombay after the partition. He played a pivotal role in indian politics, serving multiple terms as a Member of parliament from Gandhinagar in Gujarat.
Alongside former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Advani played a crucial role in shaping the bharatiya janata party (BJP) from its nascent stages to its prominent position today. In the 1980s, the bjp, with only two seats, underwent significant expansion efforts under Advani's leadership, culminating in a substantial increase to 86 mp seats by the 1989 elections.
Advani, Vajpayee, and murali Manohar Joshi are often referred to as the triumvirate within the BJP. He had previously conducted a nationwide Rath yatra advocating for the construction of a ram temple in Ramjanmabhoomi (Ayodhya), leading to his arrest in Bihar. With a political career spanning decades, Advani served as Union minister of Information and Broadcasting in the Janata party coalition government in 1977.
Following the formation of the bjp in 1980, he served four times as the National President. Advani was elected to the lok sabha seven times, holding the record for being the longest-serving Member of parliament until the 2019 elections. Advani served as the Union home minister from 1998 to 2004 and held the position of Deputy prime minister from 2002 to 2004. He also played a significant role as the leader of the Opposition in the lok sabha for an extended period.
In recognition of his public service, Advani was previously awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2015. Now, with the Bharat Ratna, he adds another prestigious honour to his illustrious career. Advani, who did not contest the 2019 elections due to his age, has a daughter named Pratibha and a son named Jayant. His wife passed away in 2016.
