Dell, a prominent computer manufacturer, has announced a significant workforce reduction, with approximately 6,000 employees laid off, as revealed in the company's exchange filing. Formerly employing 1.26 lakh individuals, dell now stands at a reduced workforce of 1.20 lakh employees.

The downturn in computer sales over the past two years has contributed to this decision. dell cited waning consumer interest in computers, leading to a sustained decline in sales. The company reported an 11 percent decrease in revenue, as evidenced by its quarterly results released last month. Faced with financial challenges stemming from declining revenue, dell deemed layoffs a necessary measure.

Despite the current challenges, dell anticipates growth in its client solutions business, particularly in personal computers, for the upcoming year. While grappling with diminishing demand, the company remains hopeful about bolstering sales. dell aims to navigate fiscal year 2025 by ensuring competitive computer prices to stimulate revenue growth.

In a recent announcement, dell informed its employees that remote work will continue to be an option; however, those working remotely will not be eligible for promotions. The company has mandated that employees work from the office for at least three days, a policy consistent with its pre-pandemic hybrid work model. This decision has sparked discontent among employees, particularly those accustomed to remote work arrangements, leading to frustration within the workforce.
