For nine nights, Mother Durga appears in nine incarnations: Sailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandrakanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayini, Kalratri, Mahakalari and Siddhidatri. She rides a majestic display of animals such as tigers, lions, donkeys and bulls. The festival is celebrated under the names of Navratri, dussehra, durga puja and Durga Ashtami. Also, on the tenth day, the statue of Durga is dissolved in water.
