India's tallest temple - What is its speciality?


Tamilnadu Brihadeeswara Temple- There are many famous temples in South india, which are located in Kerala, chennai and tamil Nadu. Every temple is known for its speciality. Brihadeeswarar temple of tamil Nadu is the world's most famous and tallest temple (Tallest temple in India), your eyes will be open to see its design. The special thing about this temple is that it is a temple without a foundation. Let us introduce you to its features. 


This temple is the highest temple in india which has been given the status of a heritage site. It has been built using an interlocking method, no cement, plaster or any kind of adhesive material has been used between the stones in its construction. Despite this, this temple is still the same after facing 6 major earthquakes in the last 1000 years. This temple is 216 feet high, years after the construction of this temple, the Leaning Tower of Pisa was built, but it bowed down with time, but the foundation of Brihadeeswarar temple is strong even today.


What is special in Brihadeeswara temple?

1.3 lakh tonnes of granite was used for the construction of this temple which was carried by 3000 elephants from a distance of 60 kms. The shikhara at the top of the temple tower weighs 81 tonnes, which is very heavy by today's standards. The level of engineering used to build the Brihadeeswarar temple cannot be matched by the construction techniques of any of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Shivling is installed in this temple, on entering the temple there is a square mandap inside the gopuram i.e. the gate and a huge statue of Nandi statue is installed on the platform. This statue of Nandi is the second largest statue of Nandi made of a single stone in India.
