Babar Azam said he doesnot prefer to be compared with Virat Kohli
Pakistan's T20I and ODI captain Babar Azam on monday said it will be better if people don't compare him with his indian counterpart Virat Kohli. Babar Azam, speaking to journalists via video conference, said virat kohli is a different type of player and he doesn't want to be compared to the indian skipper. Babar Azam has been compared with virat kohli even as the pakistan batsman is growing in stature with runs across all 3 formats of the game. Only recently, england spinner Adil Rashid picked Babar over kohli, saying he made the decision based on the two cricketers' current form.
"It will be good if these comparisons are not done. He [Kohli] is a different type of player, I am a different type. That's why I always say my job is to focus on helping my team win'," Babar Azam said. Notably, former pakistan batsman Younis Khan recently rubbished the comparisons, saying it's too early to compare virat kohli with Babar Azam who 'has been in top cricket for just 5 years'. Meanwhile, Babar Azam said he is ready to take up the responsibility of ODI captaincy after the pakistan cricket Board (PCB) announced him as the 50-overs skipper earlier this month. Babar is already Pakistan's T20I captain while Azhar ali is their Test captain.
"Definitely (I am prepared for captaincy in ODIs). First, I got a call from Wasim Khan (PCB CEO) and then from Misbah-ul-Haq. They informed me that I was going to be ODI captain as well," Babar said. Meanwhile Babar Azam also said he is looking forward to playing his first t20 world cup as and when it gets underway. The fate of the t20 world cup is uncertain due to the Covid-19 pandemic that has had a severe impact on the global cricket calendar. Babar said: "Playing in front of no crowd will be difficult. Nobody knows better than us how difficult it is to play without crowds as we played without almost any crowd in uae for 10 years. When there's a crowd, your effort-level goes up to 110 percent. "Fans will miss live action. We will also miss them, their cheers in packed state.
