Waqar Younis, the former Pakistani player said that Mohammad Rizwan offering namaz in front of Hindus during the india vs pakistan T20 WC 2021 match was special. He added that Rizwan and Babar played a sensible game and were also aggressive.
Cricket commentator, Harsha Bhogle expressed his despondency and stated that he is disappointed hearing a renowned player make such a remark made him feel terrible and disappointed. Replying to Harsha, sports presenter Mandira Sawhney Lalvani said she wasn't shocked. Mandira said she met Waqar in 2009 during the Women's world cup in australia and he was already speaking the same language as Harsha mentioned on Twitter.
Waqar Younis after getting backslashed for this remark soon issued an apology through Twitter. He apologized stating it was not intended at all and he made an unknown mistake. He didn't mean to hurt the people's hearts. He also said that sports should be uniting all people regardless of their religion.
Sports should only unite people and not divide us. These remarks spread negativity and unwanted fight in the already parted world.
