Since this year, it is known that the IPL has expanded. The IPL tournament which used to be played by 8 teams has increased to 10 teams since last year. Because of this, there is a high demand to increase the days and the number of the IPL tournament. Commercially also, the media companies have poured crores of rupees, so they put forward the same demand. bcci Secretary Jaishah also said that bcci will speak in this regard at the ICC cricket meeting.
As he said, India's request was conveyed to the ICC meeting held in England. As the IPL matches will be held for two and a half months, international matches should not be held during that time and the ICC schedule should be accordingly. The pakistan cricket Board strongly opposed it. Countries including the west indies and australia also insisted on giving similar concessions to their cricket leagues.
Pakistan's objection was overruled after extensive consultation and the ICC accepted India's request under pressure from the BCCI. In the coming days, IPL matches will be played for two weeks more than the usual days. The ICC is preparing the schedule for the international matches to be held from May 2023 to May 2027, divided into two divisions.
Schedules are prepared based on international Test championship and Bilateral cricket Matches.BCCI has announced that 74 IPL matches will be played next year and in 2024.
In 2025 and 2026, 84 matches will be played. bcci plans to hold 94 matches in 2027.
