CWG 2022: Achanta bagged 3 gold and 1 silver!!!
Indian table tennis legend Achanta sharath Kamal won the table tennis men's singles gold at the Commonwealth Games after a long wait of 16 years. He achieved this feat after winning the final match against Liam Pitchford of England. In the gold medal match, sharath Kamal showed an aggressive game and defeated his old rival 11-13, 11-7, 11-2, 11-6, 11-8. sharath Kamal's scintillating performance meant he stood at the top of the podium for the third time in Birmingham.
Despite losing the opening game in the tie-break, sharath was nowhere in sight to lose control of the match. Apart from troubling Pitchford with the variety of his serve, sharath Kamal made good use of the width of the table. After taking a decent lead in the fourth game, he claimed three consecutive points to win the game. In the fifth game, Sharat changed his strategy and while making a comeback, he also won the match in the game.After winning the men's team event gold last week and mixed doubles gold with sreeja Akula on sunday night, sharath became the first indian paddler to win three gold medals at the Commonwealth Games. He broke the previous record of two gold medals. He won two gold medals in 2006. However, Manika Batra equalled that record by winning two golds at the 2018 gold Coast Games. He has become the first indian player to win three gold medals in a single Commonwealth Games. Till now he has won 7 gold, 3 silver and 3 Bronze.
