The 16-year-old record held by former india batsman virender sehwag for the most Test sixes in a calendar year has been broken by india opener yashasvi Jaiswal. In the fourth Test of their five-match series, jaiswal made his third half-century against england at the JSCA international Stadium in Ranchi.

To shatter Sehwag's long-standing record, jaiswal hit england bowler Shoaib Bashir for a six down over long-on. Amazingly, in only his fifth game of 2024, jaiswal has already overtaken Sehwag's record; it took the former opener 14 games and 27 innings to achieve this feat.

He has now hit 23 sixes in Test cricket in 2024, overtaking Sehwag’s record of 22 sixes he hit in 2008, and rishabh Pant’s tally in 2022.
INDIA BATTERS WITH MOST TEST SIXES IN A CALENDER YEAR
Yashasvi Jaiswal: 23* sixes in 2024
Virender Sehwag: 22 sixes in 2008
Rishabh Pant: 21 sixes in 2022
Rohit Sharma: 20 sixes in 2019
Mayank Agarwal: 18 sixes in 2019

Having hit two fifties and two double hundreds in the current Test series between india and england, jaiswal is the series' top run scorer. After vinod kambli and Virat Kohli, he became just the third indian player to record back-to-back double hundreds for the country.

In the most recent ICC Men's Test batting rankings, the youthful opener shot up to 15th place after scoring an undefeated double century in Jaiswal. He had advanced 14 spots. jaiswal will be trying to break the record held by the great sunil Gavaskar, who is the only indian to score more than 700 runs in a bilateral series, after he has already amassed more than 600 runs in the Test series against England.
