Neeraj Chopra (born 24 december 1997) is an indian track and field athlete competing in the javelin throw. He is the first Asian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in javelin and the first Asian to win gold in his event at the World Championship.He is the reigning World champion from 2023 and was the 2020 Olympic champion.
Chopra was the first athletics gold medallist for india at the Olympics. He is also the first track and field athlete from india to win at the World Under-20 Championships, where in 2016 he achieved a world U20 record throw of 86.48 m, becoming the first indian athlete to set a world record in athletics.In 2013, Neeraj Chopra entered his first international competition, the World youth Championships in Ukraine. He won his first international medal in 2014, a silver at the youth Olympics qualification in Bangkok. He achieved his first throw of over 70 metres at the 2014 senior nationals.
In 2015, Chopra broke the previous world record in the junior category, throwing 81.04 metres in the 2015 All india Inter-University Athletics meet; this was his first throw of over 80 metres.[23]

Prime minister Narendra Modi on friday dialed ace athlete Neeraj Chopra and congratulated him on winning the silver medal in the paris Olympics’ javelin throw final event.As the PM told Chopra that he had made the nation proud, the latter regretted not being able to clinch the gold medal and push himself due to his injuries.Chopra on thursday became the first indian track-and-field athlete to win two successive Olympic medals with a silver in men’s javelin throw in the paris Games.
