While congratulating Mariyappan, PM wrote- Congratulations to Mariyappan Thangavelu on winning the bronze medal in the men's high jump T63 event. Mariyappan Thangavelu won the bronze medal in the men's high jump T63 final on Tuesday. Mariyappan had won the silver medal at the tokyo Olympics. However, this timehe had to settle for the bronze medal with a best jump of 1.85 meters. Mariyappan was initially interested in volleyball. Despite his condition, he used to play volleyball in school. But later his teacher inspired him to high jump. Mariyappan won the silver medal at the age of 14 by defeating normal players. In 2015, Mariyappan became world number one.
