45th Chess Olympiad: indian Men and women Secure Historic gold in Budapest

At the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest, indian chess prodigy D Gukesh sealed a remarkable victory against Russian player Vladimir Fedoseev, leading india to a historic gold medal. His teammate, arjun Erigaisi, also shone brightly, defeating Serbia's Jan Subelj on the final day of the competition.The indian unit’s maiden gold was secured as china dropped a couple of boards against the USA in their fixture.The indian team for the open category included Gukesh, Erigaisi, Praggnanandhaa R, Vidit Gujrathi, Pentala Harikrishna and Srinath Narayanan.

The indian women's team achieved their first-ever gold by decisively beating azerbaijan 3.5-0.5. Their success was further amplified when china faltered against the USA, solidifying India's top position.

The men's team, featuring Gukesh, Erigaisi, Praggnanandhaa R, Vidit Gujrathi, Pentala Harikrishna, and Srinath Narayanan, displayed extraordinary skill, finishing with an impressive 21 out of 22 points throughout the tournament. Their last gold medal was during the online Olympiad amid the pandemic; prior to this, they secured bronze in 2022 and 2014.


In the final standings, the indian men's team topped the open section with 19 points, while the women’s team finished slightly ahead of kazakhstan on tiebreakers, both teams earning 17 points. The USA and poland closely followed with 16 points, underscoring a thrilling competition.
