The 23rd match of the VIVO IPL 2018 between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians, began with the Sunrisers batting first. The Sunrisers innings began on a disastrous note, as McClenaghan claimed opener Shikhar Dhawan, and Wridhiman Saha in quick succession, leaving the Sunrisers at 20/2.
While Skipper Kane Willamson (29) and Manish Pandey (16) tried to resurrect the innings, forging a partnership, the same was broken, as Hardik Pandya struck twice, eliminating both of them, and then came in Yusuf Pathan who chipped in with a useful 29, and with the tail being dismissed fast, Sunrisers ended their innings at 118. Mumbai Indians, chasing a paltry 119, data-faced early blows, as they lost Lewis and the promising Ishan Kishan soon.
Skipper Rohit Sharma also failed to deliver, and then opener Suryakumar Yadav and Krunal Pandya partnered for a brief while to give Mumbai hopes of a chase, until Pandya was removed by Rashid Khan, scoring 24, and Suryakumar was removed by Basil, after anchoring an innings of 34. With Kaul striking thrice (3/23) in quick succession, Mumbai Indians reached a point where they could never get back into the game, and ultimately ended their innings wrapped for 87 in 18.5 overs, as Sunrisers won the match by 31 runs.
