రష్యాలో ఉలన్ ఉదే వేదికగా జరుగుతున్న వరల్డ్ బాక్సింగ్ ఛాంపియన్షిప్లో భారత స్టార్ బాక్సర్ మేరీ కోమ్ చరిత్ర సృష్టించింది. ఈరోజు జరిగిన క్వార్టర్ ఫైనల్లో 3వ సీడ్ మేరీ కోమ్ రియో ఒలింపిక్స్ పతక విజేత ఇంగ్రిత్ వెలెన్సియాపై 5-0 తేడాతో గెలిచి సెమీ ఫైనల్ కి చేరుకుంది. ఇప్పటికే వరల్డ్ ఉమెన్స్ ఛాంపియన్ షిప్ లో మేరీ కోమ్ ఏడు పతకాలు గెలుచుకుంది. తాజా విజయంతో ఓ అరుదైన రికార్డు మేరీ కోమ్ ఖాతాలో చేరింది.
కాగా వరల్డ్ బాక్సింగ్ ఛాంపియన్షిప్ చరిత్రలో వరుసగా 8 పతకాలను సాధించిన తొలి బాక్సర్గా మేరీ కోమ్ చరిత్ర సృష్టించింది. గత సంవత్సరం ఢిల్లీలో 48 కిలోల విభాగంలో స్వర్ణం సాధించడంతో క్యూబా పురుషుల లెజెండ్ ఫెలిక్స్ సావోన్ 7 పతకాల రికార్డుని మేరీ కోమ్ బ్రేక్ చేసింది. కాగా ఇప్పుడు జరిగే టోర్నీలో మేరీ కోమ్ మరో పతకం సాధిస్తే టోక్యో ఒలింపిక్స్ బెర్తు కూడా మేరీ కోమ్ కి ఖాయమవుతుంది.
