"I never expected playing Peacemaker Again"
After The Suicide Squad, actor john Cena didn't imagine he'd play Peacemaker again. Cena portrayed Peacemaker/Christopher Smith in the film, which was the first time the character was shown in live-action. Peacemaker debuted in 1966 for Charleston Comics before being acquired by DC in 1988 and relaunched under their banner. Since since, the character has appeared in a variety of titles, but he remained largely unknown until Cena brought him to life in james Gunn's The Suicide Squad last year.
During the suspension of The Suicide Squad due to the epidemic, Gunn began writing the Peacemaker series, which he described as "mainly for fun" at the time. After finishing The Suicide Squad, HBO Max asked Gunn if he had any ideas for spinoffs, and he chose Peacemaker. Gunn wrote the screenplay the first five episodes of the show. Peacemaker has been a massive success for the broadcaster thus far, becoming the most popular streaming series in the globe, with 69.5 times the typical demand.
Cena admitted to Podly: The Peacemaker Podcast that after The Suicide Squad, he didn't think he'd ever play Peacemaker again. Cena assumed the movie would be the end of his chapter, but Gunn had other ideas, telling "a storey to be told around [Peacemaker's] ethos," and Cena was back in the uniform (and tighty-whities). Peacemaker is shot in the neck by Bloodsport at the end of The Suicide Squad and appears to be dead, but a post-credits scene depicts him in the hospital and very much alive, serving as a prologue to the Peacemaker programme.
