Season 11 of The Walking Dead has been a mixed bag, but a recent mention Maggie made to her father Hershel is exactly what the last season needs to achieve. While season 11 of The Walking Dead hasn't been bad, one of its biggest flaws is that it doesn't feel like the final season of a long-running blockbuster programme. Many of these last seasons seek to commemorate what has come before while also bringing the character arcs of many prominent characters to a close, often with death.
Instead, the majority of Walking Dead season 11 has seemed much like any previous post-Rick Grimes Walking Dead season. It also feels like it's going through the motions without actually progressing the major plot, which was a common complaint in previous seasons, but increasing season 11's episode count from 16 to 22 has just worsened the problem. A final season should ideally have a sense of urgency, with a dreadful outcome if the baddies triumph, at least for a drama series. Season 11 isn't delivering on that front.
The Walking Dead writers' hands are somewhat tied when it comes to the lack of huge character deaths that most major dramas would put into their final seasons. Many fans are disappointed that AMC has already confirmed numerous upcoming Walking Dead spinoffs, thereby ruling out the possibility of characters like Daryl, Carol, Maggie, and Negan dying during season 11. Still, during Walking Dead season 11, episode 13, "Warlords," a great scene involving Maggie Rhee discussing her father Hershel did what a final season should do
