Inflection Introduces Usage Caps on Pi!!
Inflection AI is making significant changes to its chatbot Pi in response to recent challenges and shifting priorities. The company, which raised $1.3 billion last year to develop Pi, is now introducing usage caps on the free version of its chatbot. This move comes as Inflection transitions from a consumer-focused approach to emphasizing enterprise products, partly due to a major deal where microsoft acquired Inflection's founders and most of its staff for $650 million.
With the acquisition, microsoft also licensed Inflection’s AI model, which has drawn scrutiny from antitrust regulators in the US and UK, investigating potential anti-competitive behavior. In light of these developments and Inflection’s reduced resources, the company had initially planned to phase out Pi. However, the new CEO, Sean White, has now committed to keeping the chatbot operational, though usage caps will be implemented to manage GPU resource demands.
In addition to the caps, Inflection is providing users with the ability to export their conversations from Pi, in collaboration with the Data Transfers Initiative. This feature will allow users to back up their interactions or potentially transfer them from other chatbots, addressing concerns about data continuity as the company adjusts its focus.
