Apple is moving towards a future world where humans will be able to operate their iPhones just by thinking, i.e. through the brain. According to a report in a leading American newspaper, this technology is similar to Elon Musk's Neuralink in which the device is controlled by placing an implant in the brain. apple is working in this direction in collaboration with New York's brain-interdata-face company Synchron.
This company is working on a special device 'Stentrode' which is implanted in the veins near the brain like a stent. This device reads the brain's signals and converts them into wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW">digital commands so that users can operate devices like mobile or computer. This kind of technology can prove to be a boon for those who suffer from serious spinal injuries, ALS disease or stroke and whose physical activities have become limited.
How does this system work?
This technology is called Brain-Computer Interdata-face (BCI). When a person thinks about something, his brain generates signals. BCI detects these signals with the help of sensors and converts them into wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW">digital commands, making it possible to type, open an app or move the cursor on the screen, all without touching the screen.
Synchron's Stentrode device works with Apple's 'Switch Control' feature. This feature allows users to control their device in different ways. According to Synchron CEO tom Oxley, until now companies had to 'deceive' the computer that the signals coming from the brain are from a mouse. But Apple's new standard, which may be launched this year, will allow the device to be directly connected to a brain-implant.
Story of the first user
Mark Jackson, a person suffering from ALS, is already using this device from Synchron. He controls the Vision Pro headset and iphone directly from the mind. Despite being unable to walk, he is able to use apple devices. He told the WSJ that he was able to "feel like standing on the edge of a mountain" during a virtual trip to the swiss Alps and it felt like his legs were shaking.
Competition with Neuralink
Elon Musk's Neuralink has already tested its brain-implant device N1 on humans. Its system is more advanced than Synchron. While Synchron has 16 electrodes, Neuralink's device has more than 1,000. Musk believes that one day this technology can take humans to the level of superintelligence.
