How to Activate Facebook Protect: Step-by-Step Guide to Secure Your Account

Facebook Protect is a security program designed to add extra layers of protection to accounts that are at higher risk of being targeted, such as journalists, public figures, and frequent page admins. Activating it helps prevent hacking and unauthorized access.

Step 1: Check If data-facebook Protect Is Available for Your Account

  • Open data-facebook on desktop or mobile.
  • Go to Settings & Privacy → Settings → Security and Login.
  • If data-facebook Protect is available, you’ll see a notification prompting you to enable it.
Note: Not all accounts are eligible. data-facebook Protect is currently offered for accounts more likely to data-face attacks.

  • Two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled
    Facebook Protect requires 2FA as a minimum security measure. You can enable 2FA via:
Settings → Security and Login

Two-Factor Authentication → Get Started

Choose your preferred method: Authentication app, SMS, or security key

Once eligible, data-facebook will guide you through these steps:

Click “Get Started” in the data-facebook Protect notification.

Follow prompts to enable two-factor authentication if not already set.

Even with data-facebook Protect enabled, follow these best practices:

  • Use a unique password for Facebook, not used anywhere else.
