WhatsApp Web Gets Voice & Video Calling ..?
Beta Access Only (For Now)
- Voice and video calling on whatsapp Web is currently in beta testing.- Only some beta users can see the new call features.- Even beta participants may not receive it immediately due to the staged rollout.- whatsapp has reportedly tested the feature internally for months.- Public availability will expand gradually after stability checks.
How Calling Works on the Web
- The feature works inside one-on-one chats only.- Users see voice and video call icons at the top of a chat window.- Clicking the icons starts a call instantly from the browser.- No downloads or plugins are required.- Setup is similar to calling inside the mobile app.- Works on supported modern browsers.
Group Calling Still Coming
- Group voice and video calls are not live yet on whatsapp Web.- Current version supports only individual calls.- Group calling support is under development.- Future updates are expected to expand call options.- whatsapp is testing higher participant limits.
Screen Sharing Added
- Screen sharing is included with web video calls.- Users can present their screen during a call.- Useful for work discussions and quick demos.- Helps with online support and collaboration.- Makes whatsapp Web more competitive with meeting tools.
Security & Encryption
- All web calls remain end-to-end encrypted.- Only participants can see or hear call content.- whatsapp and Meta cannot access call data.- Security level matches mobile app calling.- Encryption applies to voice, video, and screen sharing.
More Features Planned
- Future updates may include group calls up to 32 users.- Call links could be introduced later.- Scheduled calls are also being tested.- whatsapp Web is evolving into a full communication platform.- Users can try joining beta through Help & Feedback, but access is not guaranteed.
