WhatsApp is rolling out a new update that makes status updates much more visible and easier to check while using chats — no need to go to a separate “Status/Updates” tab anymore. On the chat list or at the top of the app, status updates may appear as small icons or rings around profile pictures — similar to how you tap contact pictures to see stories on other social apps — making it more intuitive to check what’s new.
