Instagram’s Vanish Mode is a feature that lets you send messages that disappear automatically after they are seen and you exit the chat. It’s perfect for private conversations or temporary chats with friends.

🔹 How Vanish Mode Works

  • Messages disappear once they are viewed and you leave the chat.
  • Works for text, photos, videos, stickers, and GIFs.
  • Both users must have Instagram updated to use Vanish Mode.
  • You get read receipts, so you know when your message is seen.
📱 Step‑by‑Step: Enable Vanish Mode

Open Instagram and go to Direct Messages (DM).

Select the chat where you want messages to disappear.

Swipe up from the bottom of the chat and hold — the screen will turn dark.

Release to activate Vanish Mode. You’ll see a “Vanish Mode” banner at the top.

🔄 Sending Disappearing Messages

  • Type your message or send media as usual.
  • Once the recipient reads it and closes the chat, the messages disappear automatically.
  • If the recipient takes a screenshot, instagram notifies you.
🚫 Turn Off Vanish Mode

  • Swipe up again or tap Turn Off Vanish Mode at the top.
  • The chat returns to normal mode, and new messages will no longer disappear.
⚠️ Things to Know

  • Vanish Mode doesn’t save messages — once gone, they’re unrecoverable.
  • Works for one-on-one chats only (not in group chats).
  • If someone reports a message, instagram may still retain it for review.
