1. What is Auto-Delete on Telegram?

  • Auto-Delete allows messages in a chat to disappear automatically after a set time.
  • You can choose time intervals ranging from 24 hours to 7 days.
  • This applies to all new messages in the chat — older messages are deleted automatically when the timer expires.
The feature works for private chats, group chats, and channels (if you are the admin).

2. How to Enable Auto-Delete for Individual Chats

Open Telegram and go to the chat where you want messages to auto-delete.

Tap the three dots (⋮) or the chat name at the top.

Select “Clear History” or “Auto-Delete Messages”.

Choose the duration (24 hours or 7 days).

Confirm your selection.

Once enabled, messages older than the chosen duration are deleted automatically from both your device and the recipient’s device.

3. How to Enable Auto-Delete in Group Chats

Open the group chat where you are an admin.

Tap the group name → Edit → Auto-Delete Messages.

Select the desired time interval.

Confirm.

In groups, only admins can set or change the auto-delete timer.
