1. Check whatsapp media Visibility Settings

WhatsApp has a setting to show downloaded media in your phone’s gallery.

Steps:

Open WhatsApp → Settings → Chats

Find Media Visibility

Ensure it is enabled for the chat or group where media is missing

If disabled, new media will not appear in your gallery, though it remains in WhatsApp.

2. Check Your Phone’s Storage

  • Insufficient storage may prevent whatsapp from saving media
  • Go to Settings → Storage to ensure enough space
  • Delete unnecessary files if storage is low
3. Enable Permissions for WhatsApp

WhatsApp needs permission to access your storage:

Steps:

Go to Settings → Apps → whatsapp → Permissions

Make sure Storage / media access is allowed

Restart whatsapp and check if media appears

Check if Google Drive backup exists

Open WhatsApp → Settings → Chats → Chat Backup

See last backup date

Uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp

During setup, choose Restore from google Drive

Warning: Restoring from backup will replace current chat data, so back up recent messages first.

6. Use Gallery/Media Apps

  • Sometimes gallery apps don’t refresh automatically
  • Open your gallery app and refresh the media library
  • Or use a third-party app like Google Photos to locate whatsapp media
