ISRO's new Chief S Somanath- Space Gold Medalist!!!
Before becoming the isro chief, somnath was engaged in upgrading GSAT-MK11 (F09) so that heavy communication satellites could be launched into space.
Before VSSC, somnath has also been the director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Center at Thiruvananthapuram.
Somnath has contributed a lot to the work related to the development of rockets. He specializes in designing launch vehicles and is also an expert in structural design, structural dynamics, and pyrotechnics.

Apart from this, somnath has also done the work of improving GSAT-6A and PSLV-C41 so that remote sensing satellites can be launched properly.
Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Born in July 1963, somnath took a degree in Mechanical Engineering from kerala University. He passed this exam with the second rank.
After this, he did his post-graduation in Aerospace Engineering from the indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore. Here he got the gold medal for the best performance.
Somnath has received the Space gold Medal from the Astronautical Society of india (ASI). Apart from this, Excellence Award-2014 has also been received from isro for GSLV Mk-III.
