Telangana KCR 1 lakh schemes remind of Andhra Pradesh Naidu's 'Pasupu-Kumkuma'!
K Chandrashekar Rao, the chief minister of telangana and president of BRS, has been launching financial assistance programs worth Rs 1 lakh nonstop. kcr has introduced the bc Bandhu and Minority Bandhu programs, which provide financial aid of Rs 1 lakh for self-employment to members of the backward classes (BCs) and Minorities. According to kcr, the recipients of this money would receive it in full as a gift from the government without having to pay it back later.
All is well thus far. But why is kcr announcing all these programs at once, particularly given that Telangana's assembly elections aren't for another three to four months? Political insiders claim that kcr is doing this to invoke memories of the late N. Chandrababu Naidu, the previous chief minister of andhra pradesh, who introduced the "Pasupu Kumkuma" scheme for women and credited their bank accounts with Rs 10,000 just before the ap assembly elections in april 2019. When it became evident from several surveys that the tdp administration in andhra pradesh was facing significant anti-incumbency and that the YSRCP would win the 2019 assembly elections, Naidu launched cash transfer programs as a last-ditch effort to maintain his hold on power.
Women and other groups in ap rejected the tdp outright and handed a huge majority to the YSRCP in the assembly elections, despite the crediting of Rs 10,000 into bank accounts. Out of 175 seats, 151 were won by the YSRCP, and 23 by the TDP. The majority of studies conducted in telangana by various organisations show unequivocally that BRS would lose control in the forthcoming assembly elections. Like Chandrababu, kcr appears to be putting in last-ditch attempts to retain his position in order to win over votes from a variety of demographics. We'll have to wait and watch how telangana voters react to KCR's last-minute campaign tactics.
