Quirky campaigns asking people to abstain from consuming alcohol have become popular in various sections of the country on several occasions. On New Year's Eve, a pune man disguised up as Ravana and gave milk at traffic lights to try to persuade others of the dangers of alcohol. A photograph circulating the internet shows a man dressed as Ravana holding a little packet of milk and a sword-like thing. His bizarre costume includes horns fastened to his head and a huge moustache.
"We're propagating the 'Daru Nakho, Dudh Khao' message" (Drink milk, not alcohol). The man, named as Arun Ohar, was quoted by news agency ANI as stating, "I urge people to disavow their inner Ravana, give up booze, and pick milk instead." According to a local politician, the campaign's timing is important because many people spend New Year's Eve at bars or pubs. "Alcoholism is on the rise in our society. This is causing a slew of significant socioeconomic issues, including the disintegration of families. "Campaigns like this, which ask people to abstain from drinking, are critical," he told ANI.
Even as holiday greetings filled social media on the first day of the year, some stood out for the sentiments they intended to express. The assam Police Department sent a funny statement urging people to party properly and not to be their guests. The statement stated that anyone who breaks the rules is welcome to join the police's "party," which will include, among other things, a special performance by 'DJ Lockup.'
