According to Dar Gai, intimacy filmmaker for "Gehraiyaan," the worldwide metoo campaign against sexual assault has raised awareness that acting is a delicate profession that requires a "physically" and "psychically" secure work environment. director Shakun Batra enlisted the Ukraine-born filmmaker for the project, creating "Gehraiyaan" one of the first hindi cinema to feature an intimate director, a role that has become a vital element of film sets in the post-#MeToo era.
Gai considers the intimacy specialist's responsibility on set to be that of a protector, one who knows and appreciates the actress's "traumas." "It's not enough to execute the product; it's also vital to consider how we feel throughout that implementation, how our performers feel, and whether or not they feel psychologically comfortable," the director told PTI in a Zoom interview.
According to her, the metoo movement, which was sparked by the revelation of hollywood film mogul Harvey Weinstein's pervasive sexual harassment, caused people to take a more humanitarian approach to actors. "The movement taught us that there are a plethora of ways in which confidence may be abused. We must recognise that performers are human beings with particular traumas and life experiences, as well as some things they do not want to accomplish. To keep them stable and happy, all of this must be discussed with them."
