After the completion of IPL 2022 auction, there was a demand to boycott chennai Super Kings on social media on Monday. There was a trend on twitter about #boycottchennaisuperkings.


Why did this demand arise?

Social media users are angry with the inclusion of Sri Lankan player Maheesh Theekshana in CSK's team. Maheesh is a Sri Lankan player and users are linking him to the 'Tamil genocide'. Users say that respecting the sentiments of the people, like Pakistan, Sri Lankan players should not be given a place in the IPL.


A user Rohit wrote, "If you don't allow Pak players in IPL, then you should also understand the feeling of Tamils that they don't want Sri Lankan players in tamil Nadu."

One user Adish wrote, "Remove the player from the franchise or remove the word 'Chennai' from your name." If you think this player is more important to you than the sentiments of Tamils then you don't need to represent chennai in IPL.

What is tamil Massacre?

The tamil massacre is known as Black July. The name of the riots committed by Sinhalese against Tamils in sri lanka on 23 July 1983 is 'Black July'. In 1983, separatists of tamil rebel organization LTTE attacked an army patrol and killed 13 soldiers. After this the Sinhala people became furious and they attacked fiercely for two days.

About 3000 people were estimated to have died in this massacre. Many Tamils were put to death. Thousands of homes were destroyed and due to this thousands of Tamils left sri lanka and sought foreign asylum.

In July 1983, it became the cause of civil war in sri lanka between tamil insurgents and the Sri Lankan government. It is a sad day of remembrance for the tamil people of Sri Lanka. According to non-governmental organizations, local Tamils from sri lanka and Tamils settled from india are also present.
