Mysteriously Changing Temperature of Neptune..!?
Neptune one of the farthest planet in the Solar System. It is located in the 8th place from the sun at a distance of 4,49,82,52,900 km or 30.07 AU. Scientists studying the solar system have collected some shocking information about Neptune. The study, published in the journal Planetary Science, found that the temperature of Neptune's atmosphere changes unexpectedly.
With the help of many telescopes around the world, scientists have been able to clearly capture this change in Neptune's temperature. Contrary to expectations, they found that the average temperature of the planet was declining. Dr. Michael Roman, the study's lead author, and postgraduate research partner at the university of Leicester said that this change is not expected. We have been observing this since the beginning of the southern summer, so we expected the temperature to gradually increase here.
The reason for this is fully not known. However, researchers believe that temperature variations may be related to seasonal changes in Neptune's atmospheric chemistry. In addition, scientists say the 11-year solar cycle may be to blame.
This study describes how Neptune's atmosphere has changed over the past two decades.
The data are for less than half of the Neptune season, so they do not expect such large and rapid changes said Dr. Glen Orton, co-author and senior research scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
