Rebranding Trend: Turkey is now Turkiye!
Turkish Foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu wrote to the UN earlier this week, seeking that the authority recognise the country's name change. The proposal letter was swiftly acknowledged and approved by the United Nations after it was received. The change (in name) is effective immediately, according to UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric. This idea appears to have been made for a cause.
Turkey is a vague translation of the bird associated with Christmas, New Year's Eve, and Thanksgiving. One of the definitions of the word in the Cambridge english Dictionary is "anything that fails badly" or "a stupid or silly person." Türkiye, in President Erdogan's opinion, is the best reflection and expression of Turkish culture, civilisation, and values. He also urged businesses to label their exported items with the phrase "Made in Turkey."
