Amazon fined for selling low-quality pressure cookers..!?
Amazon, one of the leading online e-commerce companies in India, has been fined Rs 1 lakh by the Central Consumer Commission. The Consumer Commission has explained that amazon has violated quality standards and sold pressure cookers for which this fine has been imposed. Following this, the Consumer Commission has advised amazon not only to pay the fine but also to take back the cookers it has sold so far from the customers and pay the corresponding amount.
In its order, the Central Consumer Protection Commission (CCPA), which fined the amazon e-commerce giant, asked the buyers of 2,265 pressure cookers sold by amazon through its site to inform them, recall the products, and refund the amount to the consumers.
The commission, headed by the Principal Commissioner of the Central Consumer Protection Commission, Mrs. Nithi Khare, recently ordered action against amazon for selling domestic pressure cookers on its e-commerce site. The Consumer Protection Commission has issued some instructions to major e-commerce platforms including amazon, Flipkart, paytm Mall, Shopclues, and Snapdeal regarding the sale of helmets, pressure cookers, and cooking gas cylinders.
After examining the response submitted by amazon, it was confirmed that a total of 2,265 pressure cookers were sold by amazon that did not conform to the mandatory standards after the QCO (Quality Control Order) notification. amazon earns a total of Rs. 6,14,825.41 and refunds the amount to the consumers, the order said.
Amazon has admitted that it receives sales commissions for pressure cookers sold on its site. The CCPA also ensures that while amazon earns commercially from the sale of each product listed on its e-commerce site, the company is liable for any problems with the sale of these products.
Hence, the Central Consumer Commission asked amazon to recall the products and refund the amount to the buyers. amazon e-commerce company has also been asked to submit a report in this regard within 45 days.
