Delhi among highest waste generators in India - Maharashtra & UP top list

Prior to the MCD elections, trash politics in the capital is heating up, with bjp and AAP workers sparring at the Ghazipur dump site on Thursday. Despite the fact that the garbage mountain in Ghazipur is almost as tall as the Taj Mahal, both sides blame the other for not being able to resolve Delhi's waste issue. delhi is one of the ten states in india that produces the most rubbish, although being relatively small in area.

It ranks ninth in the production of sewage and sixth in the generation of solid trash (10,990 tonnes per day) (3,330 million litres per day). Nearly 3,000 metric tonnes of trash are brought to the Ghazipur disposal site every day. Despite the Center's and the states' best efforts, solid waste generation in india remained roughly at the same level as it had been in 2015–16 in 2020–21. According to data from the Central pollution Control Board, 2016–17 had the most solid waste creation per capita in recent years at 132.78 grammes per day (CPCB).

India produces 160,038.9 tonnes of solid trash per day, per CPCB figures for 2020–21. Despite the fact that over 95% of the waste is collected, only around 50% of it gets handled. While just roughly 18% of the total waste produced is dumped, almost a third is still unaccounted for. And now, both government officials and members of civil society are deeply concerned about this.

The three states that produce the most solid waste in the nation are maharashtra (22,632.71 tonnes per day), Uttar Pradesh (14,710 TPD), and West bengal (13,709 TPD). However, while bengal processes a pitiful 5% of its trash, maharashtra treats almost two-thirds of its waste. india, on the other hand, produces 72,368 million litres of sewage per day, with a 50% treatment capacity. The three states with the biggest daily sewage production were maharashtra (9,107 million litres), Uttar Pradesh (8,263, and tamil Nadu (6,421, respectively). maharashtra also has a reliable sewage treatment system in this area, although other states cannot make the same claim.
