296 defenders killed in amazon forests since 2014…?

Analysis by Global Witness shows that the amazon is one of the most dangerous places in the world. There were 39 murders here last year. One in every five deaths in the world occurred here. These murders also include the names of british Guardian journalist Dom Phillips and expert Bruno Pereira. They were killed by gunmen while roaming in the Brazilian amazon in june last year. Overall, at least 296 defenders have been killed in the amazon since 2014.

This report states that the tribal people living in the amazon forests also data-face many threats. These threats include gold mining and logging. Many companies which are in Britain, europe and America are violating the rights of these tribal people. gold is being extracted from these companies. This gold has been found with an Italian company Chimet and a gold mining company Serabi Gold.

At least 17 defenders were killed in the philippines last year, bringing the country's total to 468 since 2012. The report said people have been forcibly disappeared, kidnapped or imprisoned since Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the son of the former dictator, took office in june 2022. Other Asian countries where defenders were killed last year include india and Indonesia, with five and three killings respectively. Across Africa, four defenders were killed last year, bringing the total to 116 since 2012.
