Man Discovers He’s Been Paying Neighbor's electricity Bill for 18 Years

In a surprising twist, a man from Vacaville, California, has realized he’s been covering his neighbor’s electricity bill for an astonishing 18 years. Ken Wilson, a customer of Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E), noticed a steady increase in his electricity charges and initially attempted to lower his consumption. When those efforts didn’t yield results, he decided to dig deeper.

To get to the bottom of the issue, Wilson bought a device to monitor his electricity usage. This revealed that his meter continued to run even when his breaker was off. Concerned, he contacted PG&E for an inspection.

Upon investigation, the utility company confirmed that Wilson had been billed for the apartment next to his since 2009, shortly after he moved in. A PG&E spokesperson explained, “Our initial investigation found that the customer’s apartment meter number was being billed to another apartment, possibly since 2009.”

While the revelation was shocking for Wilson, PG&E took responsibility for the error and issued an apology for the inconvenience. They have also promised to rectify the situation.

The company has encouraged other customers to double-check their meter numbers to prevent similar mix-ups in the future.
