Chennai’s First Woman Dafadar Transferred Amid Lipstick Controversy
SB Madhavi, the Greater chennai Corporation’s first woman dafadar, has been transferred to Manali, reportedly due to her questioning a ban on wearing lipstick. The issue arose last month when madhavi wore lipstick to an official event and asked the Mayor’s personal assistant, Sivashankar, for documentation regarding the alleged ban, arguing that it violated human rights.
In response to a memo regarding her lipstick use, madhavi stated, “This is the Greater chennai Corporation. Such proposals are a gross violation of human rights.” She emphadata-sized that she fulfills her job responsibilities and challenged the authority by saying, “If it is a violation of the law, show me the government’s order regarding it.”
Mayor R priya addressed the controversy, explaining that Madhavi’s participation in a fashion show during Women’s Day celebrations had drawn criticism. “The dafadar wears dark lipstick that quickly catches attention. We host official events with Ministers and embassy officials,” the Mayor noted.
While Mayor priya asserted that Madhavi's transfer was not directly related to her lipstick use, madhavi expressed frustration over being assigned to Manali, which is considerably far from the city. The position of dafadar remains vacant following her transfer.
